Anambra State Association, Dallas/Fort Worth (ASA-DFW) is a union of Anambra State of Nigeria citizens residing in the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex. It is organized as a charitable entity in line with section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue (IRS) services. Membership is open to all adults over eighteen years of age who are of Anambra State person by birth or marriage and reside in the Dallas Fort Worth metroplex.

ASA-DFW HISTORY

Anambra State Association Dallas Fort Worth (ASA-DFW) was organized in 2001 as the umbrella Association for all Anambra Citizens residents in the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex area. The Inaugural Banquet was held on Saturday, October 27, 2001, to celebrate the first face-to-face meeting that gave birth to the Anambra State Association, USA (ASA-USA).

The aim of ASA-DFW is to provide a forum for the Anambra State people to communicate and exchange ideas for the improvement of their communities and constituencies in the Dallas Fort Worth (DFW) with the main objectives of promoting cooperation and understanding among DFW Anambra community in DFW, liaison with other Anambra State Organizations in USA and DFW parochial Anambra State organization for matters and issues affecting the Anambra State, Nigeria. Moreover, we serve as a watchdog through the Anambra State Association USA (ASA-USA), to ensure good governance of the Anambra State of Nigeria. The Association is organized as a non-profit civic entity in Texas.

The Association has 188 members and continues to add new members monthly. It is managed by an Executive Council, made up of the President, Vice President, General & Assistant Secretary, Financial & Assistant Secretary, Treasurer, PRO and Provost, and a seven-member board of directors with oversight, operational and policy responsibilities.

ASA-DFW is a stronger pioneer member of the Anambra State Association, USA (ASA-USA). It has liaised with ASA-USA to implement several medical and educational missions in the Anambra State of Nigeria. In fact, ASA-DFW’s dedicated membership of medical doctors, nurses, pharmacists, and other assistants have attended every mission at Anambra State and offered their medical and logistical skills in the successful implementation of the missions.

ASA-DFW is a member of the Igbo Community Association of Nigeria (ICAN) DFW, the umbrella organization of Ndi-Igbo in DFW. With this membership, ASA DFW provided members a conduit to be members and have a voice in the DFW Igbo community. ASA-DFW has continued to implement programs in the DFW to promote the legacy and honor prominent Nigerians of Anambra Citizenry. In 2009, ASA-DFW organized and executed a well-attended symposium in honor of Nigerian First President RT. Hon. Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe (Owelle of Onitsha). In 2014, ASA-DFW assembled the world-renowned Chinua Achebe Subject Matter Experts (SME) to execute a Memorial event that recognized the literary achievement of Prof Chinua Achebe, a STAR that shone brighter than them all and the most dedicated African writer.

ASA-DFW, in support of ASA-USA, has organized and executed two of the most attended and profitable conventions. The ASA-USA Convention, hosted by ASA-DFW in 2011, has been the most attended and most profitable ASA-USA convention. The Convention was attended by the then Governor of Anambra State, Mr. Peter Obi, several Igwes, Senators, members of both state and federal houses of assembly, and other dignitaries. In 2022, ASA-DFW hosted the Historic Unity Convention to subdue the chasm that marred ASA-USA’s progress and productivity for many years.

Our Aim

We aim to provide a forum for ANAMBRA STATE people to communicate and exchange ideas, for the improvement of their communities and constituencies, both here in the USA and in Anambra State, Nigeria.

Our Objective

The objectives of the Association shall include, but are not limited to:

  1. Promote cooperation and understanding among Anambra State people in the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex.
  2. Encourage and promote the industry, welfare, education, and economic advancement of Anambra State of Nigeria.
  3. Liaise with other Anambra State Organizations in the USA and local Anambra State parochial organizations in DFW, for matters and issues affecting Anambra State of Nigeria.
  4. Act as a watchdog to ensure good governance of Anambra State of Nigeria.
  5. Any other objective(s) as determined and approved by the general House.
